Here are a few tips to help you pack light and travel smart :
Read travellers' reviews; Go onto sites like tripadvisor, read up on some of the travellers' or locals reviews about restaurants, attractions or hotels that you are going to be going to.
Get a travel insurance; In case you get injured or fall ill when abroad, and hospital bills come up to the thousands, you still have your insurance to rely on. It is very worth it!
Make a checklist; write a checklist of the items you want to bring. Do you need two of a similar item? Prioritize and mark out the essentials, then cross out the clothes and travel gear that is not marked as 'essential'.
Pack clothes designed for travel; Bring along clothes that are versatile, lightweight, comfortable to wear, quick-drying and anti-wrinkle. For winter seasons, remember to pack layers, first, mid and outer layer and you can mix and match according to the weather conditions and keep you warm.
Roll your clothes when packing; Once you started rolling, you'll even wonder why you bothered to fold.
Be a minimalist with toiletries; Bring your toiletries in travel-size and look for toiletries that are 2-in-1. E.g. 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner. It helps you save a lot of space and lighten your luggage by a lot.
Invest in a microfibre towel; Microfibre towels are quick to dry and are compact when packed, saving you a lot of hassle of lugging a wet towel around.
Pack along a flashlight and pocket knife; Flashlights come in really handy when there are blackouts and pocket knifes when you need to cut open something.
Make a copy of your major documents; Scan all your travel documents and email them to yourself. Your passport, credit card details, etc. That way, your documents won't go missing even if your baggage does.
Store your money in different places; Get a body pouch and keep your money and travel documents close to you.In case of an emergency like losing your wallet, you still would have some spare cash on you. Some of the favourite stash places would be body pouches, behind the frame of a backpack or even under shoe inserts!
Look before you leave; Be it a chair in airports, cafes, restaurants or hotels, always turn around to make sure you don't leave anything behind.
Don't forget to have fun!
